How Can We Overcome The Devil?

📝: Do not underestimate the devil because he also has certain powers. Apostle Peter while writing his epistle to the church, warns the believers to be sober and vigilant because our adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. The lion is mighty among beasts, and does not retreat before any. Proverbs‬ ‭30:30‬. The devil likes to flaunt himself as a roaring lion; and thus roams about seeking whom to steal, kill and destroy.

WAYS TO OVERCOME THE DEVIL:

1. When God is with us - We cannot overcome the devil by our own strength. To overcome him we need God’s strength and we get this strength by the Anointing of the Holy Spirit. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James‬ ‭4:7‬. Those who humble and surrender themselves to God can overcome the enemy. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: ... Acts‬ ‭1:8‬. Only when God is with us can we face the enemy.

Samson became very powerful when the power of God ascended upon him. He could break any binding the Philistines brought upon him and overpower them. On one occasion Samson tore open a lion that came against him as if it was a little lamb. But soon after he lost his life of consecration by allowing his wife to cut off his hair, the strength that God gave him departed from him. He forsook the Nazarite vow because of strange love.

2. Through prayer and fasting we can overcome the devil - Prayer and fasting can change any situation/problem. There is power in prayer. It can change any tough person/situation/problem. God wants us to pray. Daniel the man of God, used to pray 3 times as per his daily routine. An Angel came and closed the mouths of the lions, in the den that Daniel was cast into. Daniel 6:10.

Even Jesus had a strong life of prayer while He was on earth. That prayer life helped Him greatly during the course of His ministry. In the Garden of Gethsamane, Jesus’ prayer was so intense that His sweat fell like blood drops onto the ground. This was just before being arrested to be crucified. He was praying for the Father’s will to be done in His life. An Angel came to strengthen Him after His prayer was done. Luke 22:42. In these days we must follow a strict personal prayer life apart from the church and family prayers that we have.

Hannah was barren. Her adversary Peninah would always mock her because she didn’t have kids of her own. 1 Samuel 1:7. But when Hannah decided to fast and pray, God heard her petition and opened her womb. Initially she had asked God for just a boy child. But God ended up blessing her with 5 more children. Hallelujah!

Follow these simple steps and experience the wondrous works of God everyday in your life.

May God help us!
