What Does Food Mean Spiritually?
Key Verse: Acts 27:33 — Fourteen days without food.
Spiritually, food is more than physical nourishment.
Jesus said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work” (John 4:34). He came into the world for one purpose: to do the Father’s will (Hebrews 10:7, 9).
God loves His children and rescues His people from the hand of the oppressor (Isaiah 48:14). The question is: How can we know God’s will?
1. Through the Spirit of God
The Holy Spirit reveals God’s will (Acts 10:19, 20). Peter never intended to visit Cornelius, but God led him through the Spirit. Left to himself, he would never have gone.
2. Through the Word of God
God’s will is made known through His Word (Romans 2:17, 18). Meditation is not a ritual; it is the means by which God renews our understanding. Those who neglect His Word remain ignorant of His will.
3. Through Obedience to God’s Appointed Servants
Jeremiah 42:6, 7 teaches the importance of obeying God’s direction.
A believer once bought a piece of land and invited his pastor to pray over it. Surprisingly, the pastor walked past the purchased plot and prayed over another piece of land. The believer was confused until a court ruling later declared that the land he had bought would not be his, while the very plot the pastor had prayed over became his. Remarkably, the pastor was blind in both eyes.
4. Through Prayer
Prayer helps us discern God’s will (Genesis 24:50). Eliezer prayed specifically, and God answered with unmistakable clarity, revealing Isaac’s chosen bride.
5. Through Dreams and Visions—When God Chooses
God may reveal His will through dreams and visions, as He did with Joseph. Yet Saul received neither dream nor vision because the Lord did not answer him (1 Samuel 28:6). These revelations remain God’s sovereign choice.
6. Through a Renewed Mind
God’s will is known as our minds are renewed (Romans 12:2). Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it because anger clouded his obedience. A renewed mind responds to God rather than to the flesh.
“Be wise, understanding what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:17)
“Doing the will of God from the heart.” (Ephesians 6:6)
In these last days, let us earnestly desire to know and do the will of God.
Maranatha. Praise God. Amen.
