What Does It Mean To Have A Sound Mind?

If you've read the previous two posts of this series on 'What 3 things has God given Christians?' - Power & Love, here's the third and final post.Every Born Again Christian is blessed with a Sound Mind. It does not mean suddenly you get so intelligent and knowledgeable that you become an instant genius.It means obedience to Gods Word by faith will enable you to access the Grace of God which will be sufficient for you.WHAT KIND OF MIND IS REQUIRED?Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:5 tells us what kind of mind to have. The verses above reveal the character that possesses such a mind. The Word of God says, that ye be of the same mind, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind; doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself; not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. (Philippians 2:2-4)HOW TO KEEP THIS SOUND MIND (& HEART) & FROM WHAT?There are many scriptures that teach us how to keep a sound mind. Citing a couple;Matthew 6:33 teaches us to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and not to think about the basic necessities of life, like food, clothing or shelter. Jesus said, when we focus on the things of God, He will supply all our needs according to his riches in glory. If we have to worry about the basic necessities of life then we have failed in trusting God and HIs Word.Colossians 3:1-3 directs us to set our mind on things above and not on the things of the earth. If we do not arm our minds with the heavenly calling prescribed in the scriptures, we run the risk of living the old life, slave to sinful natures yet again.Philippians 4:8 gives us a list of things to think about;Finally, brethren,

  1. whatsoever things are true,
  2. whatsoever things are honest,
  3. whatsoever things are just,
  4. whatsoever things are pure,
  5. whatsoever things are lovely,
  6. whatsoever things are of good report;

if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.Peter encourages us to gird the loins of our mind, so we stay obedient to God's calling and keep ourselves holy, as God who has called us is Holy."Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;" (1 Peter 1:13)
