Are You A Weak Person?
Are women weak?
AUTHORITY
The Bible does say to consider the woman as a weaker vessel because of the authority the husband has over the wife (1 Peter 3:7). It is in the context of marriage. God decided it to be that way after the fall of man (Genesis 3:16).
A husband cannot abuse his power over a wife. Weakness here refers to the role, not character.
PHYSICAL
We know that by design, physically, most women are weaker than men. A man cannot use physical strength to prove his superiority over women. Yes, physically, women are weaker. The New Testament believer is a spiritual man. Not natural.
WHO IS WEAK?
It does not mean that women are weak in the spiritual sense. When we examine scripture, we see some amazing spiritual women like Rebecca, Ruth, Esther, Abigail, Priscilla, etc., Proverbs 31 provides a powerful picture of a spiritual woman.
So who is weak?
Weak conscience (1 Corinthians 8:9)
Weak faith (Matthew 14:31)
Weak knowledge (Proverbs 18:15)
Bullies exploit the weak. Even women can be bullies. Some examples from scripture are Potiphar’s wife, Queen Jezebel, etc.,
New believers are weak as they seek understanding of this new life. It's the responsibility of the church to help them grow. (1 Thessalonians 5:14)
Whoever is weak, let us be like Jesus to them. Patient, loving, speaking the truth in love.
Let the weak say I am strong in Christ Jesus.
