Consider King David

The heroes of faith had a good report but did not receive the promise (Hebrews 12:39,40).

Consider King David. God and man testified about him. What did God say about David? (Psalms 78:72) (Acts 13:22)

  • integrity of heart

  • skillfulness of hands

  • man after God's heart

  • did all of God's will

A soldier testified about David in this manner (1 Samuel 16:18).

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

  1. talented harp player

  2. valiant warrior, a man of war

  3. prudent in matters

  4. comely person

  5. The Lord is with Him

HARP

The harp reveals mercy and compassion (Isaiah 16:11). Jesus moved in compassion, healing the sick (Matthew 14:14) (Matthew 20:34). Dear child of God, let your prayers be full of mercy and compassion for those who go against you.

WARRIOR, A MAN OF WAR

One of the key qualities in a man of war is endurance. God built endurance in David since his youth - warring against wild animals during his time as a Shepherd. David knew the living God - he wasn't afraid to face giant Goliath (1 Samuel 17:33-37). Joshua and Caleb trusted God's word of promise concerning Canaan. The ten other spies, feared.

PRUDENT

Why was David prudent? (Psalms 16:3) God is pleased with the righteous. David loved God more than anyone else. He loved all the saints too. David preserved the unity between God and man. The wise kings of the earth bowed before Jesus. Let us learn to remain united with God and man. Meditate on the word of God to grow in wisdom and respond in wisdom to others.

COMELY

Who is beautiful or fair? (Numbers 12:3) Moses was comely too, but why? He was the meekest in all the earth. Zion is beautiful because God is the perfection of beauty (Psalms 50:2). Let the character of humility be the beauty everyone sees in our lives.

WALKING WITH GOD

Who should we reveal with us? When we see the biblical greats we see God was with them. (John 8:29) Jesus said, He that sent me is with me. I do those things that please Him. Let's learn to walk with God.

Dear child of God, King David desired to worship at the temple of God all the days of His life. Grace made us the temple of God where God dwells in us with rejoicing. Christ in us makes these qualities possible.

Get ready! Jesus is coming for you.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
