Is the Father Seeking You?

As children, we seek to please our Heavenly Father. But what does He seek from us? Who is the Father seeking? Children who worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23).

What Does It Mean to Worship God "in Spirit"?

Spiritually Minded

We are not just body, but spirit and soul too. Born in the flesh, in sin, we were carnally minded. Born again, we became spiritually minded — we received the ability to think spiritually and connect with God.

Our fleshly mind will not let us pray using our spirit, because it loves doing its own will. Our flesh is weak; it rages against the willing spirit, newly reborn, keeping it from submitting to God.

Desire Spiritual Food

The disciples wanted Jesus to eat food to feed His body, but Jesus reminded them about nourishment for the spirit (John 4:32–34). All who worship in spirit seek the will of the Father.

Led by the Holy Spirit

Before Jesus, the human spirit is bound in slavery to sinful pleasures, a sinful nature, selfish desires, and ambitions. With Jesus, the spirit of man is guided by God (1 Corinthians 2). We now know what God has given us. When we seek His will, we learn the truth about life.

Worship isn't only about praying or singing — it's a way of life. We are the temple of the living God.

Jesus reminded His disciples that they needed to be poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3), because they did not know what spirit was in them (Luke 9:55). All who are poor in their own spirit always worship God, because they are fully dependent on Him.

How Do We Worship in Spirit?

Seek Jesus. Look at Him alone. Let your inner man be transformed daily by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:1–2).
