Reap What You Sow, What Does It Mean?
'You reap what you sow' is abused in pulpits these days. Turning the finished work of Christ into unfinished work.
How is it being abused? Often, preachers preach it as 'more sacrifices you give, more blessings you get'. In other words, if you do this, God will do this. This is a works-based teaching.
God has already given us an eternal land. Is it because we did something? No! Then Christ's death is pointless.
God is not pleased with sacrifices, as much as He is with obedience. Obedience comes from a loving heart. Sacrifices come from a bleeding heart.
In the OT, believers were asked to offer sacrifices. But God was never pleased with these sacrifices (Hebrews 10:8). The Pharisees considered themselves sacrificial because they attended all meetings and tithed, etc. But their praises and prayers never pleased God (Matthew 23).
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO 'REAP WHAT YOU SOW'?
When the seed of God's word is sown in our hearts, and we receive it wholeheartedly, Christ's nature will bear fruit through the work of the Holy Spirit. (Parable of the Sower).
Where your treasure is, there your desires of your heart will be (Matthew 6:21). What do we understand as treasures? Is it eternal or temporal? Sadly, most preachers today preach temporal blessings rather than spiritual ones.
WHAT DOES GOD DESIRE?
We need to be rooted and grounded in Christ (Colossians 2:6-9). Sow Christ in your life through the Word (Bible) and (Fellowship) Spirit. It will produce good works organically in your life as you yield to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
The world does not need another rich guy or intellectual or top professional. The world needs Jesus. Reject the Pharisee lifestyle. Hate hypocrisy and seek strength and wisdom to overcome it daily.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
