There Is Great Power In Praising God

(Sermon excerpts)

Valley of Beracah (Blessing) (2 Chronicles 20:26)

King Jehoshaphat reigned peacefully. Suddenly, he was attacked by a vast alliance of enemies* (Moab, Ammon and the Meunites). He feared greatly and proclaimed a fast to seek help from God. God strengthened him with promises. The king appointed singers to sing praises for the beauty of holiness.* The enemies destroyed each other, and Israel took the spoils of war (v. 25).

Israel rejoiced over their enemies (v. 27).* They came to Jerusalem with instruments of praise (v. 28).

Called to Praise God

God has appointed us to praise Him. We are to live "to the praise of the glory of His grace" (Ephesians 1:6).* We have innumerable blessings, more than the stars.

God Alone Is Worthy of Praise

God alone is worthy of praise. "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised," and His greatness is immeasurable (Psalm 145:3). He does unsearchable things (Job 5:9) and wonders without number (Job 9:10).

A Commandment of God

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord" (Psalm 150:6).

Praise Pleases God

"I will praise the name of God with a song and will magnify Him with thanksgiving," which will please the Lord more than an ox or bullock (Psalm 69:30–31).

We are a chosen generation (1 Peter 2:9). "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings" God has ordained strength (Psalm 8:2), and we receive strength to face spiritual enemies. "Let the people praise You... then shall the earth yield her increase" (Psalm 67:5–6).

  • Praise God for all things on earth and in heaven. How did Abraham become mighty in faith? He praised God and gave Him all the glory (Romans 4:20). Praise broke down the walls of Jericho (Joshua 6).

  • Do you know God? Then praise Him (Romans 1:19–21). You will receive peace and joy without measure.

Praise reaps blessings, so do not underestimate the power of praising God. A sincere heart of praise is more pleasing to God than anything we can give Him on earth.

Maranatha, praise God, and Amen.
