What Do You Need To Do The Father’s Will?

You need the character of Christ to do the will of the Father (Matthew 7:21).

Jesus said that His spiritual nourishment was to do the Father's will (John 4:34). Just as the body needs food for nourishment, doing the Father's will brings nourishment to our spirit.

For man to be spiritually alive, he needs to live by every word that comes from the Father in heaven (Matthew 4:4). Man is spiritually dead without God, yet he still has access to the dark spirits of this world because he is spiritually captive, bound by the Lord of darkness. When a man is born again, he comes alive spiritually to a new kingdom — the heavenly kingdom of God (John 3:3). The born-again experience births in us the character of Christ, which needs to be further nourished.

How did Jesus do the will of the Father?

Jesus doing the will of the Father meant that He obeyed every word that came from the Father. Obedience is full trust, or faith without doubt. As Jesus obeyed the Father, He kept receiving strength to continue doing the will of the Father until the end.

How can we do the will of the Father?

For us to do the will of the Father, we need to remain in Christ (John 15:4–5). Without Christ, we cannot do anything, and therefore cannot produce good fruit. We need the same nourishment that Christ received from the Father. When we look at Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), faith is produced. When we follow Jesus' steps (1 Peter 2:21), He helps us do good and also suffer for His name's sake.

Receive Strength By His Grace

The strength we receive is strength of character. Doing the Father's will in Christ produces faith, goodness, long-suffering, and more, to grow us in our spiritual life.

God's Word encourages us to be rooted and grounded in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:17–18). We need to be rooted and grounded in the character of Christ. What is the foundation of all good fruit produced in the life of a Christian? It is love. That's why Jesus encourages us to love others as He loves us (John 13:34). We learn love from Jesus as we remain in Him and keep fellowship with Him through prayer and the Word.

Dear child of God, do you desire to do the will of the Father? Yes, you do. Then believe with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength on every word spoken by the Father. The Holy Spirit will sustain the finished work started in you through Christ Jesus.
