What Is A Deceitful Bow?

“Israel turned aside like a deceitful bow” (Psalm 78:57; Hosea 7:16).

Israel lost its way because of greed. They were not satisfied with what God had given them.

• Proverbs 1:18–19 — Greed for money kills its own.

• Ecclesiastes 5:13 — Riches kept by their owners are for their own hurt. Corruption made them wicked and turned them against the poor and disadvantaged.

• Psalm 37:14–15 — Bows aimed to hurt the poor, or to silence upright speech, will be broken.

What Is a Deceitful Bow?

Deceit is a spiritual weapon. It should not be allowed to take away our blessings. The bow signifies the mouth.

• Revelation 13:3 — The beast is wounded to death by the prayer of saints; fervent prayer harms beastly spirits.

• Psalm 11:2 — The wicked bend their bow to shoot the upright in heart. A godly person uses his bow for good (Job 29:22–23 — people waited to hear Job, for his counsel refreshed them).

• Proverbs 18:21 — The tongue brings death and life.

• James 3:10 — Blessing and cursing must not come from the same mouth.

A Deceitful Mouth Brings Destruction

Delilah nagged Samson until he gave up his secret (Judges 16:16–19). Samson’s mouth, as a deceitful bow, brought him down.

Adonijah sought to be king by asking for Abishag as his wife, and Solomon could not feel safe while Adonijah lived (1 Kings 2:20–23). Ambitious, turbulent spirits commonly prepare their own death — King Solomon ordered Adonijah’s execution.

A Deceitful Mouth Angers God

Do not let God become angry and cause you to lose your blessings because of your mouth (Ecclesiastes 5:6). Keep your mouth from lies and evil speech (Psalm 34:12–14; 1 Peter 3:10).

Dear saint, use your bow for God’s glory. He will strengthen you and make you a powerful vessel for these times.
