What Stops Us From Praying?

Real independence is when we are able to pray intentionally. Our prayer life opens us up to God's presence where true freedom and joy is unlocked.

There are many enemies that hinder us from praying intentionally. Here are 10 such enemies;

  1. Self-satisfaction because of public prayer. When we think it's enough since we are already involved in many prayers with family, church, spiritual brothers and sisters, and other grace ministries, our personal prayer life takes a hit.

  2. Self-righteousness is a lethal enemy that makes prayer life totally useless. God did not come for the righteous, or those who think they are righteous. He came for the sinners (Luke 18:9-14) (1 John 1:8-10)

  3. Pride in prayer (over righteous) is a slow poison we inject into our lives. Our corrupt feelings can turn every good thing into an idol, even prayers.

  4. Have you felt a weight where you feel naturally unwilling to pray? Our natural inclinations, the old man, works against our new man daily. Don't let your flesh find place to disrupt your spiritual walk

  5. Adam sinned. Sin brought forth self-condemnation that kept him away from the presence of God. Go to God's presence no matter what (Psalms 66:18-20)

  6. The spirit of criticism hinders our desire to intercede for the weak and tempted. (James 5:7-9)

  7. The doubting spirit makes prayers faithless (Hebrews 11:6)

  8. When we busy ourselves with the worries of this life, our prayer life suffers (Luke 21:34,35)

  9. Riches, fullness of bread, surfeiting, drunkenness and all other day excesses (Luke 21:34)

  10. Laziness and comfort (Ezekiel 16:49) (Deuteronomy 28:47,48)

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
