Who Is A Mature Christian?

WHAT IS MENTAL MATURITY?

Mental maturity is the ability to think critically, reason logically, and make informed decisions. Simply put, it is the ability to think.

Joseph succeeded in all his work in Potiphar’s house. God gave him the ability to think and work responsibly. Joseph had the necessary mental maturity for earthly work. When Potiphar’s wife seduced him for the first time, Joseph’s mental clarity was evident as he lived by a standard set by God (Genesis 39:9). Like Joseph, we need to use the sound mind given to us by God when we were saved (2 Timothy 1:7). While God blesses our earthly talents according to His plan, we need to submit to His ways in order to walk in a sound mind.

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL MATURITY?

Emotional maturity is the capacity to understand, manage, and express emotions appropriately while respecting others’ feelings. Simply put, it is the ability to feel and emote respectably.

Joseph’s feelings were greatly tested by Potiphar’s wife as she kept pressuring him. But he loved God more than anyone or anything. His love for God helped him overcome the lusts of the flesh.

Joseph had God in his thoughts and love for His word in his heart. What does that tell us? He was emotionally mature — anchored by something deeper than his circumstances.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL MATURITY?

Spiritual maturity is the deepening awareness of one’s values, purpose, and connection to something greater than oneself. Simply put, it shapes our thinking and our feelings.

He possessed a humble mind and a lowly heart, submitted to God’s will to be fulfilled in his life — even through his dreams.

The most common purpose people pursue is to “make a difference in the world.” While it sounds noble, it is subject to the conditions around us and a willingness to surrender to forces beyond our control. You may make some difference, but eventually it is all vanity — self-focused and temporary.

As Christians, we have a greater purpose: to fulfill the will of God. When we stay surrendered to Him, He fulfills His will through the Spirit, who reveals Christ in us. In our surrender lies the greatest strength — to see God, who is in control, make all things good in time. We leave a legacy that is exemplary in Christ — proof of an eternity that God has promised.

Dear saint, you are made spiritually mature by the Holy Spirit. Hone your sound mind, love, and power daily. Be refreshed and renewed in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
