Why Encourage Youth to Question?

Most of us grew up in fear — never opening up to elders about our deepest concerns. We remained tormented by those fears, and in doing so, stunted our ability to think, reason, and express ourselves freely.

So why is encouraging youth to question so critical?

  1. It helps them overcome a fear-based lifestyle

  2. They learn to think critically and exercise their minds

  3. They are drawn into deeper, more mature conversations

  4. They gain confidence in their reasoning

  5. They learn to make better choices

  6. They begin to understand different perspectives

What Matters Most as We Help Youth Open Up?

We give them a foundation in the Word of God. Why? Because God's Word is perfect. God created the world through His Word, and it is the only foundation worth standing on.

As parents, do not limit your grace to your own children alone — be ready to respond to any child who comes your way. As older youth, do not restrict yourselves to discussions with church peers only. Be prepared for those who are sincerely seeking answers in schools, colleges, and workplaces.

We do not need to convince anyone, nor do we have all the answers. We trust God to give us the right words, and to convict minds and hearts as He pleases.

Now go get them — in Jesus' name!

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
