Be Like Abraham, The Father Of Nations
Did you know that Isaac was over 25 when Abraham took him up Mount Moriah for sacrifice?
What can we learn from this fact? Why is it relevant for us, especially PARENTS?
As a father, Abraham was willing to give up his son to please God. What made his obedience pleasing to God?
He was willing to give up;
a miracle child received at his old (impossible) age
the only true heir and promised child
his pride and honour among men (earthly standpoint)
he spent over 25 years loving and delighting in him to give him up for God's will
he loved God more than his child who he loved greatly
The beauty of Abraham's faith is more evident now as we see parents idolise their children. Many think their children can do nothing wrong. I was speaking to a father recently and he boldly claimed that his son had nothing fishy going on. The truth was, the entire church knew about the kid, except his father.
A believing child does not belong to their parents. They are purchased by the blood of Jesus. Love your children, but not more than God where it compromises your daily decisions in Christ.
Many believers show off their children on social media platforms. Wise non-believers do not do it these days because of growing child sexual abuse materials online. Some believers are so entangled emotionally that their feelings betray the call of God upon their lives.
The best parent is one who daily prays for their children trusting in God for their future. Undeterred by what others say or do.
Abraham's test with Isaac is a perfect reflection of idolatry in believers' lives. An idol could be a person or a thing.
Love God with all your mind, heart, soul and strength, and you will have no idols.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
