Breaking Religious Barriers To Freedom In Christ

We are born religious. Our understanding of life is activity-based or works-based. We find satisfaction in "doing" things based on our efforts. We feel a sense of achievement.

School, college, Sunday school, family, and church growing up have all put us to work, in the way they knew, to keep us in subjection or discipline (Hebrews 12:10) — like a schoolmaster. We learned what is right or wrong.

The Old Testament law was given to a disobedient Israel to help them understand what is right and wrong—to recognise their sins (Galatians 3:19). However, they failed to understand that God desired their wholehearted love.

We may have received Christ in our teens or earlier, but our spiritual maturity remains that of infants. We grow older, but only in religiousity because we got conditioned fleshly (human effort).

By the time we get older and begin to understand scripture ourselves, we've built up an internal foundation that is inclined towards rituals and traditions rather than a real relationship. Why? With a limited understanding of scripture, we prefer our human achievements and their instant rewards versus patiently walking with Jesus.

As our understanding of the world grows, and we begin to study scripture, we begin to see clearly our internal struggle. What we first see is this giant of religiousity that needs to be overcome. We realise faith alone can overcome this giant.

A new life begins; but this time, we seek a deeper understanding of God's love, rather than follow rituals to please people.

  1. Praying is no longer a ritual but a nonstop connection with God. We become true worshippers.

  2. Church becomes a place to be a testimony (Acts 1:8), along with home, work or online.

  3. We know how to prioritise between church and family without feeling guilty or being manipulated.

  4. Bible Study isn't a thing to do, but a time to hear from God > clean the spirit and satisfy the soul

Get the drift?

Your religious-ritualistic state was inevitable. But only in Christ is transformation made possible.

Feed your spirit with the Word and Spirit, grow spiritually to overcome giants. The end is near.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen
