Why Do Ministers Quit Ministry?
Why did Demas leave Christ? Demas ministered with Paul. But Demas loved the present world (2 Timothy 4:10). He loved the things of this life - pride of life, lusts of the flesh and eyes.
What instructions do you think Paul would have given Demas?
In the same chapter, Paul gives instructions to Timothy on how to live like an apostle (2 Timothy 4:2-5). Timothy was growing up to be a minister.
Preach the word of God.
Be prepared, whether the time is favourable or not.
Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.
Keep a clear mind in every situation.
Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord.
Work at telling others the Good News, and
Fully carry out the ministry God has given you.
WHY is such a LIFESTYLE NECESSARY FOR A MINISTER or believer?
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching.
They will follow their own desires and look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.
They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
Paul testifies about himself from verses 6-8, how his life was poured out for Christ. He has fought the good fight and his time has come.
Despite Paul's teachings and lifestyle that glorified God, Demas quit. He did not just quit Paul, but Christ.
Why do saints quit? It's because they don't live by faith daily. The instructions to Timothy are about a daily walk.
We are in the last days - people desire their own will. The love of money is turning people into hypocrites. Protect yourself by meditating on God's word, and immersing yourself in the living waters of the Holy Spirit.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
