Give Your Wholehearted Attention To God

Is it fair for God to seek our whole attention?

Is it justified for Him to command us to love Him with all our mind, heart, soul, and strength?

The one verse that sums up our Christian life today is John 13:34—to love as Jesus loves. But how did we get here?

God created us for Himself. He could have made us obey Him by removing our ability to choose. Yet, He gave us free will. In His divine wisdom, He had already planned for both possibilities—obedience or disobedience.

Man disobeyed and sinned, becoming condemned to hell. We lost our freedom to choose because we became bound by Satan. But God rescued us through the blood of Jesus, once again giving us the ability to choose Him and receive eternal life.

Even though we are commanded to love like Christ, God does not force us to do His will. Instead, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to empower His love within us (Romans 5:5), so that we are able to walk in obedience.

Not only does God deserve our whole attention—loving Him is the only way to eternal life.

Seek His will.

Maranatha. Praise God. Amen.
