God Is Still Doing Mighty Works
"My sister had fits and was about to die. The doctors pronounced her dead. Someone told my father about Jesus and advised him to have my sister prayed over. As the pastor prayed over her, she came back to life. I could not believe what I saw, but I realised in my heart that Jesus is God.
We began going to church. There I saw my parents crying. I wondered why, and I began to cry and call out to God. As I cried and asked Jesus, I was immediately baptised by the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
As I began to learn more about Jesus, I still struggled to live the Christian life. The Holy Spirit reminded me that I loved my father more than Jesus. One day my father passed away, and I became very angry with God. I called Jesus a 'murderer'. The Holy Spirit asked me to repent.
God wanted me to serve, so I began working in a school. I met with an accident, fell off a car, and felt I was about to die. I cried out to God, asking Him to give me one more life so that I could serve Him alone.
I gave my life to serve God despite opposition. During ministry, I fell sick with malaria and was about to die. The Mother-in-charge asked me if I wanted to see my mother. I said yes, and she left to call her. That very night, the Holy Spirit told me to open the Bible. The only verse I could see was this: 'I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD' (Psalm 118:17). To date, God has helped me to serve. I find myself falling deeply in love with Jesus."
Five quick lessons from this testimony:
1. God still raises people from the dead. God is unchanging, and He still performs mighty miracles and wonders. We must believe to see His glory in our lives. Faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6).
2. God hears the cry of the poor and needy. He is our Father. He does not despise the prayers of a broken heart and a contrite spirit (Psalm 51:17). He does more than we ask or imagine. The Holy Spirit always makes His entry before major life-altering trials. Before her father died, the Heavenly Father had already settled Himself in her.
3. The father-daughter (mother-son) bond is powerful, but when we love anyone more than God, it is idol worship. Loving God with all we are helps us break free from fleshly bindings. This applies not only to ministry but also to married life, though few talk about it in the context of marriage.
4. Don't serve God based on your own thinking. Seek His face, and He will tell you how. Most believers simply fit their lives around God's word or depend on church leadership to appoint them. They don't believe that God can guide them into what He has designed for His children.
5. The life of a Christian is filled with trials and afflictions, but the time to die is in God's hands. Suffering and persecution are inevitable (2 Timothy 3:12). God knows how much time we have on earth, and we must submit to His perfect will.
Maranatha, praise God, amen.
