Joseph, The father Of Jesus

Joseph had the privilege of being called the father of Jesus. Was he special? No. But we see God's grace shine through in his life.

Joseph was a Jew and knew what it meant to be with a virgin with child (Deuteronomy 22:23,24). In the face of such a hard mental and emotional trial, Joseph’s life reflects godly qualities.

Here are 5 qualities evident in Joseph’s life.

  1. Clean lips (Matthew 1:19). Initially, Joseph did think of separating from Mary because of the law (holiness) and no direct confirmation from God. He kept quiet to avoid bringing shame to Mary. He did not choose to tarnish her reputation.

  2. Peace maker (Matthew 1:19). While he embraced holiness, he also chose peace. His desire to honour Mary despite the perceived shame made him manage the entire episode quietly.

  3. Secret-keeper (Matthew 1:20). As soon as he hears from God through an angel, he keeps the secret to himself. He reconsiders his decision to separate from her immediately.

  4. Perfect will (Matthew 1:20). The angel addressed Joseph as the son of David. Who was David? A man after God’s own heart, who fulfilled God’s will (Acts 13:22).

  5. Obedience (Matthew 2:13,20,22). He did as the angel directed—an implicit obedience to God’s word and guidance.

No one is special. Not Daniel nor Joseph, nor any great heroes in the Bible. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Each faith hero is a reflection of God’s beautiful character shining through.

Dear child of God, God chose you so He could shine through you. You are the light of the world. You are the faith hero of today. Submit your life to Jesus.

Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
