There Is No Independence Outside God
Who is an independent spirit? He is separated from God. A creation separated from its Creator. Living independently of its source. What happens when anything is cut off from the source? It eventually dies.
SIN DRIVES THE INDEPENDENT SPIRIT
We were once unsaved. The unsaved live independently of God, in darkness. Their feelings and experiences shape their thinking over time. They are in a dead state caused by sin.
Yet, about the unsaved, we read that they have an idea of right and wrong (Romans 2:14,15). Nevertheless, no one comes to the Father unless He brings them.
We must pray and encourage the unsaved to seek God.
WE ARE DEPENDENT ON GOD
God had mercy on us. He called us to be sons and daughters (1 John 3:1-3). He grafted us back onto Him - He is the vine, we are the branches.
A seed left in the soil, without finding root or nourishment, will die. It is useless. We are useless without God.
God nourishes us with His word and Spirit daily when we seek His face.
HOW DO INDEPENDENT SPIRITS BEHAVE?
Guided by their curiosity rather than order
Man died spiritually the day he ate the forbidden fruit. His curiosity got the better of him. He was seduced into going beyond his capacity.
Bound by feelings rather than truth
Abel remained faithful revealing God's grace. Cain revealed the damage sin caused to mankind. Abel chose to depend on God's word and enjoyed God's blessings. Cain gave in to his anger (feelings).
Live on their own terms
As people multiplied, they made their own decisions. Did as they pleased. Only Noah found grace. (Genesis 6:1-8)
Dear child of God, there are many examples of independent spirits in the Bible. Our best life is in Christ. Hold on for a little while more. Jesus is coming soon.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
