What A Christian Wedding Must Not Encourage
A Christian wedding is a great opportunity to glorify God, and bring the gospel to family and friends. A godly marriage puts Christ first. With photo and videography added, you have the opportunity to bring Christ to the world using social media.
But, what is getting common these days? A cultural wedding with a passing mention of Christ during vows. God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, reduced to a mere formality. The precious blood of Jesus has become too gory for a "happy" marriage day. A self-focused day where money is spent to impress others, bringing all the glory to self.
What are some of the spirits that work in such weddings?
JEZEBEL SPIRIT
It begins with a rejection of godly values. Love stories that reject godliness. Conform to other sexually appealing outward appearances like make-up, immodest clothing, etc. (2 Kings 9:30)
HERODIAS SPIRIT
Dancing and music to entertain the audience, like Herodias' daughter did before King Herod. Dance used to entertain people is ungodly; mixed with music that reject godly values.
IDOL WORSHIP
Loving the world and the things of the world. When your old culture is honoured, God is denied. Old cultures are honoured through various practices which seem harmless, but are rooted in religion.
Some Christians think that not breaking the ten commandments (literally) is enough. They are like the young man who followed the law, but refused to follow Jesus. He loved the blessings of money.
Job reminds us that the wicked enjoy worldly blessings (Job 31:71-16). Today, believers are striving and praying for what the wicked has. Many become envious of the wicked (Psalms 73). That's why Jesus tells the present generation to choose between money and God - you can have only one Master.
Jesus will gather his children who bear fruit. Seek His face, repent and bear fruit for Jesus. Let marriages be a reflection of Christ's love for us.
Maranatha, Praise God, and Amen.
