When We Call Upon God, He Answers
When we call upon God, He answers (Jeremiah 33:3). When Elijah prayed, God answered by fire (1 Kings 18:37, 40). The Baal worshippers witnessed the living God in action as they failed to ignite their altar or hear from their idol.
Three Reasons Why God Answered Elijah
He repaired the broken altar
He built the altar in the name of the Lord
He did everything according to God's command
The Altar Experience
God instructed Moses to build an altar (Exodus 20:24-26). Whenever God caused His people to remember Him, an altar was made to offer sacrifices to Him. The altar is the meeting place with God, where He sanctifies us (Exodus 29:43).
Israel had drifted from God's presence and lacked the altar experience. The altar represents the heart. Our hearts are sanctified when we offer ourselves wholly to God.
Whatever we do, let us do it unto the Father, in Jesus' name. Our fellowship is first with the Father and the Son (1 John 1:3). Noah and Abraham both built altars in the name of the Lord. Jacob reconciled with Esau after twenty years, only when he remembered God and returned to Bethel — the House of God.
Jesus teaches us to first reconcile with others before bringing our offerings to Him (Matthew 5:23-24).
Walk in His Will
All who love God obey His commandments. Elijah did everything God instructed him to do. When we walk according to God's will, He moves mightily in our lives. Eternal life belongs to all who please God (1 John 2:17). He answers when we ask anything according to His will (1 John 5:14).
Maranatha. Praise God. Amen.
